Special features of red wines from the region Bourgogne

Bourgogne is THE region of exceptional terroirs. It is one of the most fragmentedand diverse vineyards, it breaks down into terroirs, then into climates and sub-climates.

There are 6 sub-regions (Côtes de Nuit, Côte de Beaune, Côte Châlonnaise, Chablisien, Châtillonnais and Mâconnais)and 100 AOC, each designating a plot close to the village to which it owes its name. To classify these plots, the Burgundians classified them by assigning them theterm Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru. We cannot speak of Bourgogne without mentioning the climates, this term designates a "cultural landscape", a plot carefully studied and demarcated for its unique terroir. Today there are nearly 1,500 across Bourgogne, since 2015, they are listed as World Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO).

The Hospices de Beaune were created in 1443 in order to take care of patients who cannot afford to treat themselves. In generosity, several families of healed winegrowers donated a piece of their land to the establishment. Over the centuries, an extraordinary vineyard has been made up of the best Bourgogneterroirs. Today, the production is sold at a prestigious auction to finance its operation, it is the sale of the Hospices de Beaune.
