The South West enjoys a vineyard that is most diverse in grape varieties. Of the 300 varieties planted, 120 are indigenous. The vines are scattered in 29 AOCs, from the Atlantic to the gateway to the Mediterranean in 5 sub-regions: the Dordogne,Aveyron, Garonne, Gascogne and the Basque Country.
Here are 5 appellations from the Southwest region that we recommend: Cahors, Gaillac, Montbazillac, Madiran, Fronton.
The main grape varieties are: Malbec, Tannat, Négrette and Fer Savadou for red wines; Colombard, Petit Maseng, Gros Maseng, Mauzac for white wines. The red wines are powerful and racy, the white wines can be dry or mellow and keep a lively and fruity character.
